Why it Matters

Close-up of a small peahen nesting on the ground with a malformed beak.

The most common peafowl are Indian peafowl, native to the forests of the Indian sub-continent. The peafowl found here are often pet birds that have either wandered off or been dumped by their owners, or the descendants of such birds.

The environments these birds find themselves in are riddled with hazards including but not limited to:

  • Car impacts (sometimes intentional)

  • Off-leash dogs, stray cats, and other predators

  • Inappropriate diets (often provided by well meaning individuals)

  • Unnaturally high population densities creating difficult social and breeding dynamics

  • Extreme inbreeding

  • Lack of medical care (as seen pictured)

What We Do

Several peacocks on dirt ground near rocks and a large boulder under a tree with a background of a wooden fence and hills.

We use the fees we collect to humanely secure and relocate peafowl to approved farms and ranches all over Southern California.

You can see one of our relocated peacocks at his new home where he was introduced to an existing flock.

Please note that at this time we are unable to provide our services free of charge. Hiring qualified staff, providing the best possible care, and securing new homes for peafowl is very costly. Thank you!
